Kids this age have plenty to say and are still working out how to get it onto paper. So they write short. A poem one week, a few lines about something that really happened the next. They read what they wrote out loud to the group, because hearing it is how you find out what works. Spelling doesn't stop anybody here. The teacher helps with the words while the idea stays the child's. By the end of the quarter your child has a stack of pages nobody made them write.
